Sun Valley Film Festival updates its programming with new year-round events, a student pass, and more.
Sun Valley, Idaho, is a town often paired with the words “new” and “first.” It was home to the world’s first ski school and the first ski chairlift. The first American to win an Olympic gold medal in skiing hailed from Sun Valley (Gretchen Fraser). SV entertains with new views from new heights. It is constantly living, growing, adding, and impacting. And the Sun Valley Film Festival proves to be no different.
This year, the Sun Valley Film Festival returns with new features and more than a few firsts. Among them include new events and opportunities to engage with the next buzz in cinema and celebrate both established and up-and-coming filmmakers.
First, on Sunday February 19th, SVFF will present an encore screening of the Oscar-nominated documentary Fire of Love, a vivid exploration and reflection on humanity, love, …and volcanos. Then, immediately following, George Prentice, beloved host of Boise State Public Radio’s Morning Edition and conversation leader from last year’s SVFF coffee talk with Amy Poehler, will host Movie Night in Sun Valley. The event promises a discussion about the films that spurred conversation and constant buzz throughout the last year, along with a preview of the SVFF selections.
And last but not least, in yet another first, SVFF fans, patrons, and friends get a sneak peak of the first episode of Season 3 of the Outer Banks on Monday February 20th. The advanced screening also includes a Q&A with actor Charles Esten, series creator and showrunner Josh Pate, and producer Sunny Hodge.
And that’s all before the festival even begins.
During the festival proper, SVFF will host Variety’s “10 Producers to Watch Panel” and bestow a Creative Impact in Producing Award. A brand new student pass has also been implemented this year to allow the next generation of filmmakers to partake in the festival, rounding out another pair of firsts.
In addition to film screenings, coffee talks, and the Sun Valley Junior Film Competition, the festival will round out the experience and celebrate the craft of writing films through the High Scribe Screenwriters lab and competition with Academy Award-winning screenwriter Will McCormack.
