New Exhibition With Artist Stefan Bruggemann

Does graphic design tickle your fancy? Hailing all the way from Mexico, with ideas in abundance, Stefan Bruggemann has decided to take his artistic vision to the walls of New York.

Bruggemann, a native of Mexico City, and a curator of various Mexican and London-based outlets has settled quite well, as his work wrestles with the ferocity of his words, yet strikes them out with quick succession – one term at a time.

The exhibit entails a graphic design motif as the structure is decorated with colorful graffiti. The townhouse walls are struck with a rich symphony of colors and paint; symbolic of our every-day cultural woes. Statements such as “Stay or Go”, “Set Free” and “Take Back Control” — strong terms that exemplify feeling and triumph — have made their way to the great enclosures of Manhattan’s Hauser and Wirth. Each floor of the foundation presents a different take on Bruggemann’s unique artstyles. Currently, “Headlines & Last Line In The Movies” and “Timeless” are his ongoing projects.

Bruggemann’s installations attempt to enact a story of conceptual and historical significance. Using a process involving the likes of newspaper headlines, spray paint, vinyl and oil, Bruggemann speaks his narrative through text. The designs are juxtaposed either directly on the surface of the wall, or, in the case of the second and third floors – mirrors and marble panels for maximum effect. The various terms and statements, of which grace the walls in plentiful amounts, were derived from hundreds of recent media news stories. The fervent dialogue from his latter project also pays homage to various classical films with references of their own, including Citizen Kane (1941) among others.

The exhibition will remain open between June 29th and July 29th at East 69th street.
