Morris from America is a great coming of age tale starring Markee Christmas and Craig Robinson. It is filled with adventures, and excitement that merges both the American and German cultures.
This movie evolves around 13 year old Morris, who along with his father, had to move to Germany. We see the struggles Morris faces by his lack of German, and his situation at home. His rejection of the idea of making friends soon changes when his tutor, a sweet and nurturing college student, suggests Morris sign up for a camp where he could interact with other youngsters. Soon after beginning the camp, he sees a beautiful German girl, Katrin. Although Morris creates a barrier that does not let others interact with him easily, Katrin is able to break through and push Morris out of his shell. Once out, Morris goes through some ups and downs as he experiences the euphoria of love, Germany, and growing up.
The movie, very well written and directed by Chad Hartigan, combines elements of American and German culture through the eyes of the youth. The playwright breaks taboos of puberty, race, rap, and the German culture along with its partying scene. This movie puts these two cultures in conversation while providing the viewer with beautiful shots of the painteresque sceneries of Germany. As entertaining and laugh provoking as this movie is, it also creates a heartwarming feeling that lingers with one long after having watched the it.
If you want a movie that will make you want to laugh, dance, be entertained as well as is thought provoking, definitely add this movie to your list. The incredible work of the actors and director along with the cinematic shots leaves the viewer very pleased with nothing more to be desired.
