Lil Wayne Announces New Skateboarding App

‘Lil Wayne: Sqvad Up’ mobile skateboarding app will be available for download Friday, June 10.

Lil Wayne has announced the release of Lil Wayne: Sqvad Up, a mobile skateboarding game app that will be available for download starting on June 10th across Apple and Android platforms. Lil Wayne: Sqvad Up, developed by mobile media and technology company, UTILITY, is a new game that celebrates Wayne’s love for the thrill of skateboarding. Designed to be simple, fun and addictive for all audiences, the throwback arcade-style game offers users a chance to join the rapper on an authentic tour of his hometown, New Orleans. The game soundtrack was curated by Lil Wayne himself and produced by Hollygrove-based producer Nesby Phips.

Lil Wayne has teamed up with Samsung Electronics America to present the game at E3, the world’s premiere trade show for computer and video games, where he will make a special appearance for fans who visit Samsung at the show. Additionally, Lil Wayne will tease Sqvad Up 360 at E3. Captured with Samsung’s Gear 360 camera, Sqvad Up 360 allows fans to teleport into Wayne’s body or ride along with the crew and learn more about Wayne’s passion for skating, his inspirations for creating the mobile app, and what he hopes to do next in the space. Fans following E3 can use Samsung Gear VR powered by Oculus to view the content in Samsung Milk VR, a premium virtual reality content service.

“I’m super excited to drop my first mobile skateboarding game Lil Wayne: Sqvad Up as a way to share my passion for skateboarding. It’s also special to celebrate all that makes my home of Hollygrove and New Orleans such a dope place,” says the rapper. “I started skateboarding at 29, not just because I thought it looked cool, but also because I wanted to be able to inspire kids to get outside and play. Skating is a perfect way for kids today to stay out of trouble and be positive and active.”

Dodging obstacles and hazards, players will skate as far and as long as they can all while earning stylized, customized new gear and other upgrades. Inspired by artist’s passion for both skating and drones, the game will feature airborne skating and grinds powered by drones. A socially integrated leader board and soon-to-be-announced promotions will offer players opportunities to compete for “money can’t buy” prizes. Personally selected by Lil Wayne, Sqvad is the official skating team of Young Money and made up of Tyreek Morrison (TJ), Evan Hernandez, Yosef Rattif (Yoyo), Andrew Colbert, Jerme Knibbs and Edgard Benitez.
