Jeremy Scott Reintroduces Americana in his Fall/Winter 2017 Collection

Jeremy Scott subverts the idea of American excess by making it the motto of the decadent and unapologetic American youth. His collection is a brazen love letter to America.

Cheetah print, patchwork, Marie Antoinette, florals, velvet, Jesus and Madonna: Jeremy Scott’s Fall/Winter 17 collection is an ode to americana. Fishnets and flared velvet fuchsia pants are a mere glimpse into the reckless superficiality of youth in America that Scott wants to infuse with humor and sincerity. Traces of greed and superfluousness in the leather, the denim and sequinned pants are repurposed with intense self-awareness and frivolity. This is America: uneven, motley and wholehearted.

Inspired by the ’70s and elements of grunge and punk, Scott encompasses the greatest ages of freedom, sex and uninhibited gratification in his clothes. These veins of American history are essential to its culture and the collection is a not-so-gentle reminder. With a cacophony of color and print, of cartoons and Pop Art, of craft and the appearance of carelessness, Jeremy Scott’s collection glorifies the already glorious.
