Zhang’s SS18 presentation was a show stopper quite literally. He lined the runway with bright orange traffic cones and an array of traffic signs, a nod to New York City’s chaos and constant construction.
Zhang debuted at NYFW with a bright and colorful collection that comprised mostly of reconstructed anoraks, each with unique details. Key elements of the collection were oversized silhouettes, large roomy pockets, and loose elements like straps and strings that moved freely as the models walked.
Zhang’s palette was comprised of brights hues like eggplant, yellow, cerulean, and red, a stark contrast from the pastels that we often expect from spring collections. The pieces were loud, edgy, and demanded attention, hardly for the faint of heart.
He paired the voluminous pieces with comfy sneakers, allowing his customers to move freely through New York City’s busy streets.
