The one and only Jane Fonda came to Los Angeles’s Museum of Contemporary Art to honor three legends of the art world – Frank Gehry, Theaster Gates, and Wendy Schmidt.

The “Barbarella” star and workout tape icon wasn’t the only big name in attendance. Sarah Paulson walked the carpet and spent quite a bit of time chatting with Fonda. Also there to support the museum were “Hunger Games” star Josh Hutcherson, “House” actor Lisa Edelstein, and “13th” director Ava DuVernay

Being a bastion of contemporary art and the avant garde, the venue hosted some carpet-walkers, many of them artists themselves, with pretty memorable outfits. Ten plus foot long dresses, sequins galore, tuxedo top/casual bottom and other out-there outfits were on full display.

The event inaugurated the MOCA legends format, which honors three luminaries from art, architecture, and philanthropy: Gates, Gehry, and Schmidt, respectively. Rapper Tierra Whack performed at the event.

The biggest surprise of the evening was an appearance by former Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, according to Los Angeles Magazine. Pelosi introduced Gehry, who has been behind so many iconic Los Angeles buildings, like the Disney Concert Hall just a few blocks away from the museum.

The Knockturnal spoke to the museum’s director Johanna Burton as well as Candy Spelling, who has long supported the arts.

“We [MOCA] have a long legacy of honoring people who have helped us make the museum the incredible place that it is. So tonight we are going to honor three of those folks. We’re calling them legends, because they are,” said Burton.

“Artists are very special to me because I was an art major in school. I just love it all,” said Spelling.
