Issa Rae has officially launched her record label Raedio.
The Emmy-nominated actress and star of HBO’s hit TV series Insecure recently partnered with Atlantic Records to introduce a creative platform for new talent in a way that extends past just music. Raedio will also provide opportunities in film and TV, commercials, podcasts and more.
While Issa Rae starting a record label may seem a bit random to some, it’s important to note that acting isn’t the only form of arts that she’s knowledgeable in. Issa has made it known before that she has a deep love for music and an elite ear for what sounds good, too. She helped curate the soundtracks for each season of her show Insecure and is known for shining a spotlight on up and coming artists with a unique sound.
With the help of one of the world’s biggest record companies, Raedio scored their first signee with Boston-born, Hatian-American singer-songwriter TeaMarrr. Her debut EP Thanks For The Chapstick was released on SoundCloud in 2017 and the singer was discovered by Issa shortly after the release of her 2018 hit “One Job”, which now has over a million streams and more than 1.5 million views on YouTube.
TeaMarrr, who refers to herself as a “musical pharmacist” that provides healing through her songs, dropped her latest single “Kinda Love” on Friday. On it, she croons about creating the perfect man for herself after experiencing a few bad ones in the past.
Love and heartbreak are common themes in her lyrics, and while this may be nothing new for an R&B artist, TeaMarrr has an alluring style, sound and aesthetic wise. Her witty humor, danceable instrumentals and soaring melodies are what makes her stand out and what will ultimately draw you, the listener, in to her world.
Watch TeaMarrr build her dream man (literally) in her video for “Kinda Love”, directed by child. (Ari Lennox, Lucky Daye) and featuring guest appearances from Issa Rae and Jessie Woo.
