In the midst of a packed awards season across Los Angeles, the 9th Annual Astra Film Awards stood out as both one of the most star-studded celebrations (hello Elle Fanning, Mark Hamill, Timothee Chalamet, Michael B. Jordan, Adam Sandler, Nicholas Hoult, Amanda Seyfried, Zoey Deutch, and many more) and one of the most genuinely engaging nights of the season.

In classic Hollywood fashion, the evening delivered its share of major speeches and heartfelt moments, from Wicked: For Good director Jon M. Chu and editor Myron Kerstein getting emotional while speaking of their longtime collabs, to Adam Sandler asking the room to wish his sister that is currently battling cancer a very happy birthday, to a fiery, house-bringing-down speech from the legend that is Sharon Stone herself.

Held on January 9, 2026, the Hollywood Creative Alliance lit up the Sofitel Beverly Hills Hotel, striking a balance between meaningful recognition and a warm, communal atmosphere.

Ryan Coogler’s smash hit Sinners emerged as the night’s top winner, earning six Astra Awards, including Best Motion Picture – Drama.

The film also won Best Actor in a Motion Picture – Drama for Michael B. Jordan, Best Director for Ryan Coogler, Best Original Screenplay for Coogler, Best Cast Ensemble, and Best Original Score for Ludwig Göransson.

Paul Thomas Anderson’s One Battle After Another snagged Best Motion Picture – Comedy or Musical along with Best Adapted Screenplay, while Zach Cregger’s Weapons picked up two honors, including Best Horror Feature and Best Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture – Drama for Amy Madigan.

Rounding out Warner Bros.’ impressive showing, James Gunn’s Superman took home Best Action or Science Fiction Feature.

Netflix followed closely behind with a strong slate of wins, led by its global animated phenomenon KPop Demon Hunters. The film earned three Astra Awards, including Best Animated Feature, Best Original Song for “Golden,” and Best Voice-Over Performance for Arden Cho as Rumi.

The streamer also claimed Best Documentary for The Perfect Neighbor, along with standout acting wins for Adam Sandler, Amanda Seyfried (Best Actress in a Motion Picture – Comedy or Musical), and Ariana Grande (Best Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture – Comedy or Musical).

On the drama front, Chloé Zhao’s Hamnet was recognized with two major acting honors. Jessie Buckley earned Best Actress in a Motion Picture – Drama, while Jacobi Jupe received the Astra Award for Best Young Performer, further cementing the film’s emotional impact.

International cinema also had a notable presence, as Neon’s critically acclaimed Sentimental Value earned Best International Feature and Best Supporting Actor in a Motion Picture – Drama for Stellan Skarsgård, continuing the film’s strong awards-season momentum.

Beyond the trophies, the Astra Awards once again made room for purpose. Petco Love returned to host an on-site pet adoption event, introducing attendees to adoptable dogs in need of loving homes. Since its founding in 1999, Petco Love has invested more than $430 million in adoption and other lifesaving initiatives and, through partnerships with Petco and more than 4,000 animal welfare organizations, has helped place over 7.1 million pets into loving homes—proving that the night’s impact extended well beyond the stage.
