French Design Studio Galerie May Has a New Home at The Invisible Collection’s Showroom on the Upper East Side

Paris based design studio, Galerie May, has made its way to New York City!

Galerie May’s latest collection L’ Esprit Francais, is now on view beginning May 18th, at The Invisible Collection’s showroom on 24 E 64th St.

As I carefully make my way up the steps of the L’ Esprit Francais exhibition, I’m politely invited in by warm neutral toned rugs and possibly the softest looking sofas I have ever seen.

I thought to myself, “This space is the equivalent to an enormous, yet delicate hug.”

Founded by interior designer Charles Tassin and visual artist Maylis Tassin, Galerie May’s latest collection L’ Esprit Francais draws influence from contemporary French craftmanship and the designer’s interest in sci-fi B movies. The collection offers thirty-nine pieces, from divinely fabricated armchairs to futuristic shaped mirrors and sconces.

In the guest book at the showroom entrance, a note from Theresa Baker (a visitor from Germany) reads, “You just feel like you’re in heaven.”

On my way out I caught up with Charles and we spoke about the process behind creating a collection such as L’ Esprit Francais. Charles shared that it is a result of working together [with his wife and partner Maylis] “It takes four hands,”  he says.
