For Your Consideration, “Industry” on HBO

Season 4 of HBO’s hit series, Industry is currently underway, but we’re *rightfully* still talking about it’s explosive third season.

Back in September, HBO aired the Season 3 finale of its latest hit series, Industry. It was as explosive as it was entertaining, filled with twists no avid follower of the show could’ve ever predicted. In many ways, it felt as through it was written as a series finale (confirmed by co-creator Konrad Kay); delicately wrapping up each character arc developed over the last four years, with just enough to play with if the show were renewed for a fourth season. And it was. Because the powers that be at HBO realized audiences had finally woken up to their sleeper hit, moving the series to the coveted 9pm Sunday slot, previously held by Succession.

If you haven’t yet seen an episode of Industry, I can’t imagine why. With its punching lines of dialogue-both comical and acerbic, heart-pounding storylines, award-worthy performances, and foot-tapping soundtrack, it has every component needed to please viewers and critics alike. Each season builds on the last, leading more away from the harsh financial jargon of the trading floor that enshrined the narratives of Season 1 and toward the delicate, and complex cat and mouse game at the heart of each relationship in Season 3. Where Season 4 will take us, only the writers and cast know. Harper (Myha’la), Yasmin (Marisa Abela), and Rob (Harry Lawtey) are no longer nervous young grads desperate to prove they belong, and Pierpoint isn’t really what keeps them tethered to each other or their former boss, Eric (Ken Leung) and colleague, Rishi (Sagar Radia). So where do these characters go? What can we expect? And how does what happened in Season 3 set the stage for Season 4?

Some of these questions were answered by co-creators, writers, producers, and directors Mickey Down and Konrad Kay last week at a Deadline x HBO FYC event held at The Times Center. Down and Kay were joined by cast members, Myha’la, Marisa Abela, Harry Lawtey, Ken Leung, and Sagar Radia for a panel discussion moderated by Deadline’s Katie Campione. After a screening of the series finale, “Infinite Largesse”, the creators and cast sat down to discuss the episode as well as the evolution of their characters throughout the third season and what viewers may be able to look forward to next season.

At the end of the night, the cast and creators joined the audience, made up of SAG-AFTRA members, for a reception, greeting guests and taking photos with those who asked. The reception, hosted by HBO, provided guests with a full buffet dinner, as well as snacks and drinks and the opportunity to mingle with the the cast. I had lovely conversations with a few cast members and one of the creators. We talked about how much the series has meant to me, how happy we are for the current success of the show as well as it’s dedicated audience (shoutout #industryhive), and whatever else you might discuss with the people who make your favorite series on television. Hopefully, after last Wednesday’s event, it’ll be awards bodies’ favorite show too!

You can also watch my Season 2 and Season 3 interviews with the cast and creators.

Seasons 1-3 of Industry are currently available to stream on Max.
