On The Scene: We Are Family Foundation 2016 Celebration Gala

On April 29, 2016, the We Are Family Foundation (WAFF) held its 2016 Celebration Gala in order to honor Bono, President Jimmy Carter, and Adobe Project 1324 as well as celebrate the foundation with a special performance by Nile Rodgers & CHIC and Bono.

The We Are Family Foundation (WAFF) is a non-profit organization founded by Nile Rodgers and Nancy Hunt after the tragedies of September 11, 2001.

“Three of my friends were in the very first plane that crashed into the tower and everybody was doing something that was very frontal. I wanted to do something that would last forever and outlive me,” said Davis regarding the founding of this organization.

During the Celebration Gala  Nile Rodgers honored long time friend Bono with the Humanitarian Award.

“I think musicians are incredibly generous and altruistic and Bono is just at the top of that form,” said Davis of his long time friend.

President Carter was being honored with the Mattie J.T Peacemaker Award Award, an award named after WAFF first ever honoree as well as a personal friend of President Jimmy Carter.

Adobe Project 1324 received this year’s Visionary Award.

The gala was hosted by CNN broadcast journalist Soledad O’Brien, who also hosted WAFF’s first ever gala. O’Brien called the foundation amazing and said she is always impressed at WAFF’s ability to “bring people together.”

“They have a great event,” said O’Brien, adding that “not only is it important and meaningful but it’s also fun.”

The We Are Family Foundation is dedicated to the vision of a global family by creating and supporting programs that promote cultural diversity while nurturing and mentoring the visions, talents and ideas of young people who are positively changing the world.
