Exclusive: Vince Vaughn and Kathryn Newton Talk ‘Freaky’ [Video]

The stars of the latest Blumhouse slasher “Freaky” discuss what it was like emulating one another’s mannerisms, blending horror and comedy genres, and working with writer-director Christopher Landon.

Freaky centers on seventeen-year-old Millie (Kathryn Newton) who unwillingly swaps bodies with local serial killer The Butcher (Vince Vaughn). With only 24 hours to switch back, Millie also tries to keep her friends and family safe in this modern take on a slasher-comedy.

Newton previously had worked with writer-director Christopher Landon and producer Jason Blum on the Paranormal Activity franchise, and their involvement was what immediately drew her to Freaky. “Chris Landon said he saw a killer in me,” Newton joked. “The movie was so funny on the page. It’s just a reflection of the times we’re in.”

The script’s blend of jokes and kills led Vaughn to sign on as well. “Comedy and horror are both challenging but when you do them as one, it’s hard to pull off,” Vaughn said. “Chris [Landon] knows this genre so well…The movie is definitely unique.”

But don’t expect either of them to opt for a body-swapping movie again anytime soon. “I don’t want to swap bodies with anybody ever again!” Newton laughed.

“It’s kind of exhausting being multiple people,” Vaughn echoed.

Check out the video for what else the duo had to say about working with master of horror Jason Blum, emulating one another’s mannerisms for the body switch, and the friendship they formed on set.
