In our first episode of a new Knockturnal series, Create + Conversate, our host Katherine Tinsley sat down with rising social media superstar, actress, and comedian, Nicole Ciravolo. In just the past year, Nicole started 2020 off with 400 followers and has now surpassed over 2.1 million followers and 71.2 million likes on TikTok alone.
“I’ve seen so much violence against people who look like me, people who have the same sexuality as me, people who are in love the way I want to be in love, I think that moving forward just creating representation that isn’t harmful is just so important to see…just let gay people be happy. Let non-binary people, let trans people be happy. Give them happy storylines that don’t revolve around just that one aspect of their identity.”
Nicole is most notably known for her viral character, Ms. Connie, the high school receptionist you desperately wish you had in high school. Ciravolo’s Ms. Connie character was initially created to point out sexist school dress codes. Watch our first episode of Create + Conversate to hear the whole Ms. Connie origin story from Nicole herself along with her journey in comedy from standup to Chicago’s infamous Second City workshop.
