Exclusive: Interview with cast and creative team of Topdog | Underdog play [Video]

Suzan Lori-Parks’ Topdog/Underdog returns to Broadway to celebrate its 20th Anniversary Production!

Premiered for the first time ever in 2001, the play is a darkly comic fable that circles around the theme of brotherly love and family identity. It tells the story of two brothers named Lincoln (played by Corey Hawkins) and Booth (played by Yahya Abdul-Mateen II). Haunted by the past and their obsession with the street con game, three-card monte, the brothers come to learn the true nature of their history. The Broadway revival is one that we have not seen like any other. Director Kenny Leon boastfully shares that out of all of the Broadway plays he’s directed, this is the one he is most excited about!

The Knockturnal was on set to speak with playwright Suzan-Lori Parks, director Kenny Leon, and actors Yahya Abdul-Mateen II and Corey Hawkins. The cast and creators share what it means to them individually to be a part of this special project twenty years later, working with one another, and sharing more about the characters in the play. More on the interview and what cast is shared can be found in our Youtube video linked above!

Topdog/Underdog will begin previews on Tuesday, September 27th at the John Golden Theatre The production will officially open on Thursday, October 20th.
