Exclusive: Cast Talks ‘Star Trek: Discovery’ at PaleyFest NY [Video]

Space might be the final frontier, but that didn’t stop some of the crew of the Starship Enterprise from landing on planet Earth last night. From cast members to show runners and producers, all hands were on deck for the 2019 NY PaleyFest screening of Star Trek: Discovery at The Paley Center for Media Arts.

Leading lady Sonequa Martin-Green who plays Michael Burnham, the newly found half sister of Spock, spoke with Knockturnal, and expressed her views on being the first African American woman to hold a leading role throughout the Star Trek Franchise. “ It feels overwhelming a lot of times, because I can have the experience within it, but when I step outside of myself, that’s when I can hardly take it, because I know how important it is, because I know that representation leads to revelations and visualization leads to actualization.” She remained quite a bit hush, hush when it comes to what’s in store for next season, but left us with “the best is yet to come”

Saru played by Doug Jones, also stopped by and let us know his character, whom has become completely fearless, would love nothing more than to take over the Captains’ chair, but he himself is terrified of it. “ It comes with more responsibility, more screen time, more memorizing of paragraphs of really hard dialog.”

Newcomer to the show David Ajala, says “It feels Amazing, and it’s also a wonderful francize to be apart of,” and hopes he can deliver a product fans can be inspired by. As for what we should expect next season – space babies and space families definitely aren’t on the list, but love, romance and friendships aren’t something’s to count out.
