Exclusive: Cast Talks ‘Pose’ Season 2 at NY Premiere [Video]

And, it’s 10s across the board for the star-studded cast of “Pose” as they celebrated the premiere of its second season at The Plaza Hotel.

The Golden Globe-nominated FX series has captivated the hearts of critics and fans alike with its lovable characters, unapologetic storylines and frank perspective of the LGBTQ+ community in the late 80s, in the midst of the HIV/AIDS epidemic.

Picking up in the 90s, Pose Season 2 will introduce fans to new characters, deeper storylines and a look into the future as Madonna’s iconic single “Vogue” transcends the ballroom scene into mainstream stardom.

On the red carpet, the cast spoke to The Knockturnal about their narrative this season, connections to their characters and the impact the show has had on their lives.

For Lil Papi, played by Angel Curiel, viewers can expect to see him in a mature light as he pushes himself to obtain his GED with the support of the House of Evangelista and his house mother, Blanca. In many ways, Curiel can relate to Blanca and Lil Papi’s tight-knit and supportive dynamic.

“When I first came from the Dominican Republic, my mother was homeless [and] we shared a room in the shelter,” Curiel said.  “I witnessed my mother work three jobs to get us out of that situation, and I believe it’s not the exact same way, but that’s what Blanca does for Papi.”

The feisty Candy Ferocity, played by Angelica Ross, dealt with several blows to her ego during the first season as her insecurities were subjected to some of Pray Tell’s most cutthroat yet iconic reads on the show. However, this upcoming season, Candy will shine bright like a diamond.

“You’re gonna learn this season that Candy is focused.” Ross said. “Candy is one of those types of girls that’s whatever she puts her mind to, she’s gonna get, and she’s gonna go hard. You’re actually gonna start to see her talent. She’s telling people ‘listen, I don’t know what your vision looks like, but you need to recognize I’m a star, honey!”

Gaining momentum in mainstream television, Pose is breaking barriers with its LGBTQ+ representation. Jeremy McClain, who plays Cubby, praised the show for its emphasis on spreading love without judgment.

“Having a show like Pose is so important because it teaches us love and acceptance to everyone,” McClain said. “I’ve had everyone from fellow queer people to straight white guys say ‘this show taught me a lot about love and taught me a lot about something I didn’t about in the community or about their son or daughter who is queer.’ It’s all about love.”

Don’t miss the season premiere of Pose, which airs on Tuesday, June 11th, on FX.
