Who’s ready for a fresh take on an original? I am! Look no further because “Men In Black” is back.
Men in Black: International is a continuation of the original sci-fi action comedy about a secret organization that protects Earth from alien intruders. Producers Walter F. Parks and Laurie MacDonald spoke with The Knockturnal about why a new movie felt appropriate. “We knew after the third that collectively Will and Tommie and Berry Sonnenfeld felt [like] we’ve told that story, we’re not going to try to do a fourth. And we didn’t do anything for a couple of years […] it really came out of an idea that began with Tessa Thompson’s character.” MacDonald shared with us.
“Molly” later known as Agent M., is played by Tessa Thompson, she portrays a young recruit similar to Will Smith’s character in the previous three films. For Thompson, playing a black, female lead felt important because she says there’s not enough inclusion in Hollywood.“The reason that I really wanted to make movies is because I didn’t see enough of us [black women], I think we’re silenced in the real world and we’re also silenced on screen” Thompson says.
“Avengers” star Chris Hemsworth portrays Agent H., a member of the British branch of MIB. Men in Black: International marks the third film Thompson and Hemsworth have starred in together.
Men in Black: International hits theaters June 14th.
