Blood & Water is the second series Netflix has commissioned out of the continent of Africa.
The show not only shows the raw talent that exists on the continent but the beauty of South Africa. The teen drama which was released in May of this year was streamed in 190 countries and was on the Netflix top ten lists for the United States, the United Kingdom, and France. The show quickly became a global success with the stars of the show gaining a fanbase from around the world almost overnight.
Dillon Windvogel who plays the character Wade has a lot of gratitude for the fans, the support, and the opportunity. For Dillon, similar to his co-star Khosi, the show was his big break. The South African actor began his career by taking a dance class that later led him to develop a love for performing. Windvogel captured the kindhearted Wade perfectly, and in some ways can relate to his character.
Though Blood & Water offers suspense, scandal, and relatable growing pains, the teen show isn’t short of drama. When discussing what Dillon hopes to see come season two he said with a level of enthusiasm: “more drama!” Though the plot and search for Puleng’s missing sister draw viewers in, it is important to note that the authenticity of each character helps drive the story.
Wade is the son of the headmistress of Parkhurst College and Puleng’s sidekick. The pair are like a modern-day Batman and Robin. The two are working to solve the mystery of what happened to Puleng’s sister, and if Fikile Bhele’s true identity is Puleng’s abducted sister Phumele Khumalo.
The first season ended with a cliffhanger leaving viewers waiting in anticipation for what happens to the teens of Parkhurst. Netflix has announced the renewal of season two and with such a jaw-dropping season finale, the wait for what happens next is guaranteed to be worth it.
