Exclusive: Amy Hargreaves Talks ‘How He Fell in Love,’ Working With Matt McGorry and More!

TheKnockturnal caught up with Amy Hargreaves at the New York premiere of “Eden.”

Tell us about your new film?

It’s a film called How He Fell in Love, we’re world premiering at the LA Film Festival on Thursday night, and it stars me and Matt from Orange is the New Black. It’s a very New York story. It’s the only film at the LA film festival that’s classified as erotic which is kind of interesting. It’s a love story basically, but It’s an affair movie. I play a married woman who has been married for twenty years and my character is at a crossroads in her life and she crosses paths with Matt’s character who is also at a crossroads in his life and we kind of launch into this torrid affair that actually turns into a deep life changing kind of love.

What I like about it is unlike a lot of American movies or tv shows with this kind of plotline the woman always has to get beat up or punished for some extravagant affair. But in this it is kind of treated very much as something organic and we all know this happens all the time. It’s just kind of a little window into these four peoples’ lives he also has a girlfriend and I have a husband and just kind of shows how love can evolve over a lifetime and how marriage evolves and how love can change your life. So it’s a beautiful little New York story.

How excited are you to premiere at the LA Film Festival?

The LA film Festival is real excited about the film and they wanted to premiere us so why not. We’re all pretty much all New Yorkers, well Matt lives in LA now. We’re all New Yorkers so it’s pretty fun to go out and do that.

Speak about working with Matt.

Matt is hilarious and he’s a gentleman and he’s a great actor. We had a really lovely lovely time. It was a down and dirty shoot independent film style, no trailers we were in the trenches together and he was a real pleasure to work with.

Speak about working with director Marc Meyers.

Marc Meyers he’s gentle, he’s a gentle artist and I felt very confident working with him. There were a lot of love scenes and you have to really trust the director and the actor that you’re playing with and with Matt and Marc I felt like I was in great hands.

What’s next for you?

I have another film called The Preppie Connection which is a really cool independent film. I don’t want to jinx it but we’re about to go on the festival circuit with Thomas Mann who stars in Me and Early and the Dying Girl. I play his mother in it. I just saw the trailer and was so proud like that’s my son from Preppie.
