Drake Drops Hyped ‘Hotline Bling’ Video

Drake has the music industry wrapped around his finger like one of Slick Rick’s rings.

He has fans throwing their money at free mixtapes, dropping all their parents’ money on his clothing, and making every picture of him into a meme. Drake has surpassed the fame any Hip Hop artist can amass, he’s become an iconic pop star that is embossed into Hip Hop’s timeline. Fan or not, rap can’t look past the undeniable marks Drake has left.

That level of celebrity allows him to dress up in my dad’s weekday outfits, dance like Urkel trying to hit the nae nae, and still come out looking stylish. It’s really impressive, and while I might not necessarily be a Drake fan, I can’t say that I thoroughly enjoy the song. I think this kind of minimal production suits Drake when he has a heavier mix of singing to rapping.

The visuals for the record, aside from Drake’s outfits, are really well done. Director X found a great way to be minimal by dropping a lot of props, but mixing background colors in such a warm way that the screen never feels empty. It also helps that the viewer’s attention is stapled to Drake’s spastic dance moves.
