The Knockturnal sat down with the stars of DEXTER: ORIGINAL SIN to dive into the blood-soaked beginnings of one of TV’s most iconic antiheroes—and the story that shaped his dark legacy.
In the beginning, there was blood… and now, there’s a full origin story of one of television’s most complex and beloved antiheroes, broken down into a 10-episode drama series.
DEXTER: ORIGINAL SIN introduces viewers to a young Dexter Morgan (Patrick Gibson) as he transitions from a student to a calculated serial killer. This pivotal chapter in the Dexter-verse reveals the early challenges he faces in keeping his dark passenger at bay.
The journey becomes more complex as he begins a forensics internship alongside his adoptive father Harry Morgan (Christian Slater) at the Miami Metro Police Department, placing him dangerously close to the very system he seeks to outsmart.
While fans already know how Dexter became a part of the Morgan family and the moral guidelines of Harry, they’ll finally get to see the father-son duo work through the kinks of the Code. Those teachings are put to the test as Dexter navigates his first kills of ‘society’s worst offenders’.
Making his legendary return as the voice of Dexter Morgan’s iconic inner monologue, Michael C. Hall is also onboard as an executive producer. It’s a stacked lineup of talent, including Molly Brown as Debra Morgan, Patrick Dempsey as Captain Aaron Spencer, Christina Milian as Detective Maria LaGuerta, James Martinez as Detective Angel Batista, Alex Shimizu as Vince Masuka, and Reno Wilson as Detective Bobby Watt. Special guest star Sarah Michelle Gellar takes on the role of CSI Chief Tanya Martin, who introduces Dexter to the world of forensics.
Under Clyde Phillips’ executive production, the prequel stays deeply rooted in the essence that made the original series a cultural phenomenon, enhanced by the vibrant and nostalgic flair of the 70s and 90s. Additional executive producers include Scott Reynolds, Mary Leah Sutton, Tony Hernandez, and Lilly Burns, with Robert Lloyd Lewis serving as the producer. Michael Lehmann acts as the directing executive producer.
DEXTER: ORIGINAL SIN premieres Friday, December 13 on streaming and on demand for Paramount+ subscribers with the Paramount+ with SHOWTIME® plan, before making its on-air US debut on December 15.
