Datz the joint, datz the jam, turn it, up, and play it again.
The Lower East Side and Hollis-based Guyanese Caribbean restaurant had a massive line when I pulled up yesterday hoping to try their world-famous, viral oxtail patty at The Feast of San Gennaro.
So it’s understandable that the incredibly charismatic founder and owner of the restaurant, Josh Datz, didn’t have a ton of time for small talk.
He and his mom – who he talks about with so much pride on his IG you kinda start to tear up – worked their way through throngs of hungry people on a hot day. It was also their fourth day working the fest out of like 100 days or something, so I felt very lucky to get in.
Never had better oxtail in my life and I’ve been a food writer for a decade now. It was so tender and flavorful I almost fell into a row of cannolis.
Watching Josh make it was like watching Steph in the Gold Medal game of the Olympics this year – effortless, smooth, majestic. That’s right, majestic.
You can see him make it for yourself on, say, the Kelly Clarkson show, or on any number of famous New York-type dudes’ Instagrams. Not only is the food incredible, but they’ve got the marketing game on lock, so do yourself a favor and visit one of their two locations or catch them at one of the remaining dates of the feast before they’re worldwide and you need a reservation.
Bless!
