On Friday December 2nd, Brooklyn’s Output invited DJ duo Frank and Tony once again, who did nothing but deliver an incredible set to their audience.
One knows the level of talent an artist has when they are asked to perform multiple times in one of the most well-known temples of techno NYC has . Within the last year, this dynamic duo has performed about 8 times at Output, both as a headliner at the Main Room and the Panther Room. They have also made appearances in Bossa Nova Civic, Analog Bkny, and have traveled around the US, Canada and Europe!
Frank and Tony have managed to create a mark in the underground techno scene and have built up a loyal following, all of whom were present on Friday. Now, I have gone to Output on several occasions but have never seen the Panther Room as crowded as I did on this day.
The Panther Room is always a nice break from the Main Room because it is a different type music, different set up and overall different ambiance. The room itself is made to feel cozy but also disco-y. It has comfortable sofas on the sides, a bar, even a small fireplace and a huge disco ball that hangs from the extremely tall ceiling. Although it is smaller in space, attendees tend to crowd up less, therefore allowing for more space to crack some moves.
As I left the Main Room where the talented Tale Of Us was performing and entered the corridor that lead to the Panther Room, I slowly began to feel transported into a tropical feel with Frank and Tony’s tunes. Their sound is not hard and heavy but rather laid back, easy going and just overall feel good. As I stood there observing the audience, which was having a great time swaying and shuffling to their sound, I began to bump my head and in a matter of minutes I joined the party with everyone else.
The duo played with tropical, cosmic and disco sounds which fed the audience with the right energy to keep this celebration of music going. The audience would either stay in the room and solely listen to their set, would go back and forward between the outdoor area and the Panther Room, or back and forward between the Main Room and the Panther Room. Whatever it was, Frank and Tony promised a good time for anyone who passed by. Their magnetic energy and sound was one that allowed techno lovers to be fully immersed in the melodies and let their moves channel through their music.
