Company XIV Brings Magical Glitz And Glam With ‘Cocktail Magique’

Unleash your inner kid with magic and spirits

If there is one thing that can speak to your kid at heart, it is a good old fashioned magic show.  And Company XIV, known for their incredible burlesque performances, has continued their run of their show, ‘Cocktail Magique.’  As the name implies, this is a magic show that focuses their magic performances around making some magically delicious cocktails.  From having a cocktail parachuted to you from above to making a specialty cocktail by throwing knives at ingredient cards on a spinning wheel, Cocktail Magique has it all.

The venue is located a minute away from their iconic Theatre XIV location.  Austin McCormick and the Company XIV have transformed a 62 seat venue into an immersive set that transports you back to the 1920s era. And the cast is dressed up in costumes that scream flappers, movers, and shakers.

And as the show starts, you are introduced to your two hosts of the evening, Sam Urdang and Em Stockwell.  Playing the roles of the traditional lead magician and magician’s assistant, these two take the tropes to new and campy heights.  It’s always fun when a show understands the boundaries it lives in but wants to push all the tropes to the limit.  With these two, they had amazing chemistry while making light of the absurdity and over-performativeness that comes with a magic show. This duo had amazing chemistry, adding bits of comedy and drama to each act while still maintaining character and performing some of the most incredible magic illusions we have ever seen.

As the show continues, we are introduced to new and exciting characters that feature an incredible talent.  From belly dancing, to sword swallowing, to disappearing acts, Cocktail Magique incorporates the incredible talents of its cast members seamlessly into their magical illusions.

Outside of just the magic and performance, we have to mention the cocktails being showcased during the performance.  Cocktail Magique does an incredible job of weaving the magic performances with the cocktail at hand.  There was an incredible level of immersiveness, whether it be cocktails falling from the sky to a mixed drink appearing in a locked box in front of us.  Each act gave a delicious and boozy drink that pleased everyone.  And to touch upon the cocktails, every cocktail had a great depth of flavor while having some of the most unique notes and ingredients we have tried.

For those that like to get the VIP treatment, be sure to check out the Fortune Teller Upgrade.  This comes with an extra cocktail (this cocktail was one of our favorites), as well as a private Tarot Card reading and a take home Salvador Dali tarot card set as a keepsake.

Cocktail Magique is a must see performance for anyone with an appreciation an love for the arts, magic, or fun in general.
