Comedy Review: Carl Barron’s ‘Drinking With A Fork’

The man from down under comes to America!

On Saturday we attended Carl Barron’s “Drinking with a Fork” comedy show at the Soho Playhouse.  Carl is an extremely popular comedian hailing from Australia.  He is also rated the #1 comedian in Australia and #3 comedian in the world by Ticketmaster.  His material contains a lot of insight on everyday life.  He talks about his family, experiences he has had while living his life, and just regular things that happen in everyday life to everyone.   His routine relies on a lot of physical comedy, so depending on your sense of humor, it could be hit or miss.  Carl talked a lot about his life in Australia, which seemed to be a hit to audience members who seemed to be from Australia.  It was interesting to watch someone so renowned in Australia perform in the United States because his humor is vastly different than a lot of standout comedians who come from the United States.  Not to say his performance was bad, but a lot of his jokes didn’t seem to land as well to people who were raised in the United States as opposed to people from Australia.  I guess it is true what they say, Australian humor is very different than humor over here.

All in all, seeing Carl perform live helped us understand what American humor is really like.  He did get a lot of laughs from the audience so if Carl sounds like your type of humor then this show is the show for you.
