Charlie Fox: A New Era of Sophistication in New York City’s Cannabis Scene

Since its legalization, you’d be hard-pressed to find a cannabis retailer, especially in New York City that puts an emphasis on sophistication, personalization and the overall selection experience. Recognizing this gap, Charlie Fox, purveyors of New York’s finest cannabis, opened their flagship location on 7th Avenue in the heart of Times Square.

This is not your average corner weed store with blinding neon lights in the shape of a pot leaf. The space was designed in partnership with Home Studios, the award-winning interior design firm and it’s a true masterpiece.

“Charlie Fox is a first of its kind retail brand experience”, said Creative Director and partner, Julia Levi. “We invite guests to escape the hustle and bustle of Times Square and explore the world of Charlie Fox – one that combines our two inspirations – the rich heritage of London and New York’s modern edge. The multiple floors allow us to create a sense of discovery that simultaneously evokes a familiar warmth,” she added.

You are transported from the commercialism of Times Square into a lavish lair, greeted immediately by a mural of a sly fox.  As you walk through, it feels as though you could be browsing a high-end fashion boutique. The experience begins on the first floor, made to feel like an old-world apothecary, and perfect for the guest on the go. Products are beautifully displayed in illuminated cases around the room as well as adorning the artsy walls. Kiosks are available for quick self-service or knowledgeable employees are at the ready.

“We decided to create a store rooted in what we loved – restaurants, hotels and hospitality. Whether it is sommelier-level service, a focus on quality ingredients, or emphasis on ingredients and low dosages, we hope Charlie Fox will be the first of many dispensaries to destigmatize cannabis and introduce it to new clients,” said Charlie Fox co-founder James Mallios.

The second-floor salon stands out for its unique blend of attentive service and a luxurious seated experience. It features a marble-topped intimate bar, cannabis sommeliers dressed in custom vests designed by Kimberly Taylor (crafted in New York), and banquet seating where guests can have one-on-one appointments with Charlie Fox sommeliers to ask questions and receive personalized product recommendations.  As the largest cannabis retailer in the Northeast, it’s an inviting space for both newcomers and seasoned consumers.

A retail lounge offers Charlie Fox-branded apparel and chic lighters in the signature Charlie Fox colors and checkered pattern, and the third-floor “den,” set to open in Spring 2025, will serve as a flexible event space for immersive experiences and exclusive gatherings.

With a variety of options—from flowers and vapes to pre-rolls, gummies, and beverages—the store offers an expansive selection. Charlie Fox’s in-house line of premium cannabis emphasizes all-natural ingredients sourced from local growers and features lower doses of THC to help consumers maintain control over their experience. For those unsure about their mood, the flagship’s knowledgeable budtenders provide personalized guidance, explaining the terpenes, lineage, effects, and aromas of each product. This isn’t your typical corner weed shop—Charlie Fox replaces impersonal transactions with high-end design and sommelier-quality service.

The Charlie Fox line of premium cannabis products are sourced from New York farms and emphasize low doses of THC to ensure that the consumer controls their desired mood and affect.  The signature offerings invite customers to choose from four distinct moods – Relax, Sleep, Social and Create. Each category is available in premium flowers, vapes, pre-rolls and gummies. The brand also offers seasonal collections of Charlie Fox apparel, merchandise, smoking accessories and home goods that reflect its approachable luxury aesthetic and attention to detail.

Charlie Fox is a novel, luxury cannabis experience rooted in hospitality.  Established in late 2024, Charlie Fox opened its 10,000 sq ft retail flagship at 719 7th Avenue.  Designed in partnership with award-winning interior architecture firm Home Studios, the three-story dispensary takes cues from partners’ experience in hospitality, restaurants and boutique hotels as owners of Calissa (Southampton) and Amali (Upper East Side).  As the legal cannabis market in New York is projected to match or exceed retail alcohol sales within 5 years, Charlie Fox has already set its sights on future growth. The brand plans to open additional retail locations in NYC and the Hamptons within 2025.
