Bibhu Mohapatra’s collection embodied classic, timeless beauty without holding back on the type of sparkle and glam that would draw attention in a ballroom.
Mohapatra celebrated the tenth anniversary of his fashion label during New York Fashion Week on Monday, February 11 during his Fall/Winter 2019 collection’s runway show. The collection featured many familiar aspects of his designs including flattering waist belts, glamorous fur coats, and generous use of silky fabrics. However, this year’s runway show also boasted more sequins, bold use of bright green and yellow accent colors, and plenty of lace. The fur that made its way down the runway this year wasn’t just limited to more traditional coats but was also featured as a way to accentuate sleeves and necklines on a few of the dresses in this season’s collection. Check out some of the collection’s most noticeable trends:
Lace with Pops of Yellow and Green
Lace gave the ability to layer formalwear in a way that was sexy yet modest. Yellow, green, and shades in-between brought some funk to elegance on the runway.
Abstract Floral Designs
The floral patterns featured throughout the collection took a more artistic approach, sticking to simple color schemes and resembling a watercolor painting of a flower garden.
Jewels That Sparkled
The jewelry and bejeweled embellishments that accompanied the collection turned heads throughout the show. Narayan Jewellers and Forevermark Diamonds collaborated to bring a twinkle to each style that could be seen from miles away.
Ostrich Feather Accents
Feather accents added a bit of an edgy taste to otherwise simple garments without being flashy. Pink, white, and black feathers were added to accentuate the shoulders and sleeves of a number of designs.
