Art Basel Miami: 1800 Tequila x SoundCloud’s present ‘BLANK CANVAS’

On Friday night, December 8th, SNARKITECTURE, MadeinTYO, Nick Thomm and Dave East came together for a unique and collaborative performance at 1800 Tequila x SoundCloud’s ‘BLANK CANVAS’ event during Art Basel Miami.

‘BLANK CANVAS’ celebrated how a masterpiece comes to life – by immersing guests into a world of creativity and craftsmanship narrated through the transformative art of Dave East, MadeinTYO, SNARKITECTURE and Nick Thomm. The collaboration marked the first time all four artists came together to transform a blank space into a work of art that was just refined enough.

My personal favorite part of the show was the hyper-color works of Nick Thomm that lit up the space and stage throughout Dave East’s performance. Thomm has recently been gaining some serious international recognition in the art scene for his surreal interpretations of popular culture and the “post-internet era.” His work really added a vibrant element to the overall show.

Dave East had a strong performance, as well — keeping the crowd engaged and in the moment. Born and raised in East Harlem, Dave East is one of the realest New York rappers to break through in the past decade. Starting out on Nas’ Mass Appeal Records, to recently inking a deal with Def Jam, he has already solidified himself as one of hip hop’s heavyweights, employing technically precise bars to deliver gritty, lyrical storytelling.

Overall, ‘BLANK CANVAS’ was a refreshingly unique spin on a curated Art Basel Wynwood experience, steering away from the sometimes-cliche, oversized warehouse events, and providing an intimate experience of good vibes and immersive art to fully experience.
