Annie Murphy and Salma Hayek Pinault Surprise Appearance at ‘Black Mirror’ Premiere

Talk about life imitating art!

On  June 13, Netflix surprised attendees at a special screening of Joan Is Awful, the opening episode of the new upcoming Black Mirror Season 6, at The Paris Theater in New York City with two huge guests – Annie Murphy and Salma Hayek Pinault.

The two lovely and dang funny actors opened up the live taping of I Like To Watch hosted by the icons Trixie Mattel and Katya.

The night began with an incredible screening followed by a first time ever live audience taping of I Like To Watch.  The stars of Joan Is Awful, Annie Murphy and Salma Hayek Pinault kicked off the grand affair by introducing themselves as Trixie & Katya. The cheeky play on the premise of the episode received a huge reaction from the audience, who roared with enthusiasm when the lights turned up and revealed the duo on stage.

Murphy and Hayek Pinault thanked the audience for the incredible reception of the episode and introduced the hosts of the popular digital series, who took the couch with them to dish on their roles in the episode.

The event also included an introduction from the director of the Black Mirror episode, Ally Pankiw. Other attendees included Black Mirror co-stars Ayo Edibiri, Jared Goldstein, Jaboukie Young-White, special guest Karen Gillan, drag queens Mrs. Kasha Davis and Marcia Marcia Marcia, and notable social media influencers including Victoria Brito, Zachariah Porter, Emely Moreno, Kate Austin, Sarah Sulsenti and JJ Niemann. Members and guests of LGBTQ organizations including GLAAD, HRC, The NYC LGBT Community Center, Ali Forney Center, GMHC, The Trevor Project, YUVA and members of the Royal House of LaBeija were also part of the audience for the special screening.

Joan Is Awful is the first episode of Black Mirror Season 6. In the episode, an average woman (Murphy) is stunned to discover a global streaming platform has launched a prestige TV drama adaptation of her life in which she is portrayed by Hollywood A-lister Salma Hayek Pinault (played by Hayek Pinault herself).

The beloved digital series originally launched in 2019 with MOST, Netflix’s home of LGBTQ+ storytelling (Instagram, Twitter). Stream the latest episode of I Like To Watch now!

Black Mirror Season 6 launches globally on June 15 only on Netflix.
