A Week Since ‘Walking Dead Finale,’ Everyone Keeping Mum

It has been a week since the worst season finale in The Walking Dead’s history. Okay, maybe not the worst. But certainly the most anticlimactic. Furious whispers about the cliffhanger have died down to mere disappointment with the showrunners and writers. And it’s justified for the most part. We were promised a big finish, and left with essentially nothing except the fact that someone dies.

Guess who knew coming into a zombie show that people were going to die??

My money’s on Daryl. A character who doesn’t exist in the comics, he’s been coming very close to mimicking his (dead) brother’s character arc lately, going off alone to fight anonymous enemies and the like. Not to mention, he’s killed the most out of the enemies around. It would be a real blow to the group without hurting anyone really important- say, Michonne, Rick or Carl.

It’s an interesting choice for AMC to do something so risky on the one show they have that’s been a continuous moneymaker with high ratings. What’s risky is that it isn’t risky. Leaving us on a cliffhanger like that is something AMC has been doing all season, all show. Fakeouts keep happening, cliffhangers too, ominous foreshadowing leads to nothing…suspense doesn’t work unless it actually leads to something.

Time for the seven month dry spell.
