Sol Drops New LP ‘The Headspace Traveler’

Rapper Sol has spent quite some time revamping his style over the past few years, and The Headspace Traveler is a healthy fruit of that labor.

Since the release of the People/Pages EP, Sol’s shown an interest in crafting a more melodic blend of Hip Hop, without forgoing verses that are filled with meaning.

Listening through The Headspace Traveler left me with a clear, and possibly finished image of that exact mixture. “People” and “Pages”, as two tracks, were nowhere near enough to capture Sol’s musical planning, so this record was our first honest taste of this long awaited style.

I can say with confidence that The Headspace Traveler is a successful endeavor into this new soundscape.

Sol sounds confident across all the tracks, and gives a lot of variation in the melodies mixed into these otherwise rap heavy songs. The bounce on “Ain’t Gon Stop” is a totally different vibe from the chill hook that is “Don’t Even Party”‘s main course.

Sol, true to what he asks of other rappers, says a good amount on this record. He takes time to pass on personal thoughts and beliefs as well as handing out positive vibes that transpire to great cookout music.

The Headspace Traveler is a solid variation of ideas and song themes that circle around this light summer bounce infused Hip Hop. It’s definitely worth a pickup even if you’re new to Sol.
