‘To Kill a Mockingbird’ Headed To Broadway

Producer Scott Rudin announced that To Kill a Mockingbird will be coming to Broadway.

The Harper Lee novel is set to be a part of the 2017-2018 broadway season. Aaron Sorkin signed on to write the stage adaptation of the story. Tony Award winner Bartlett Sher has also joined the team and will direct the production. Rudin and Sorkin have collaborated together before in the films The Social Network, Moneyball and Steve Jobs.

Rudin told The New York Times that the novel, “lives a little bit differently in everybody’s imagination in the way a great novel ought to, and then along I come. I’m not the equal of Harper Lee. No one is.”

Lee returned to the literary spotlight recently when she announced the release of Go Set a Watchman. The novel, only her second, is a continuation of To Kill a Mockingbird. The book caused controversy after it’s release when it was revealed that the main characters father Atticus Finch was racist.

To Kill a Mockingbird instantly became a hit and later a classic when it was released in 1960. Lee received many accolades most recently the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2007 and the National Medal of Arts in 2010 awarded to her by President Barrack Obama.
