On The Scene: The 2015 Soul Train Awards

This years’s 2015 Soul Train awards taped in Las Vegas was pure magic from the star studded red carpet to the amazing and unforgettable performances on the stage.

Presented by BET and Centric and sponsored by Toyota, this celebrity stylist and fashion editor was up close and personal getting all deets. One of the biggest trends on the red carpet was “the white out”. Completely forget about that old fashioned rule of no white after Labor Day because these whites are sizzling.

Our favorite sassy mom from “The Game” Wendy Raquel Robinson looked divine in a white, off the shoulder dress and Betsy Johnson rhinestone, bow sandals. While MC Lyte looked sophisticated and classy. I had a chance to speak to her stylist Jason Griffin who shared that Lyte is never going to be all out there with everything hanging out. It’s just not her style. She showed up and out in Byron Lars.

Songbird Shanice and wife of Flex Alexander stopped by in a white, sequenced Rachel Roy and red Steve Madden pumps. Pure pandemonium broke out when Janelle Monae (wearing Chanel), Jill Scott (wearing Balmain) and Erykah Badu (wearing Stephane Rolland ushered us on in to the show.

By now everybody on earth knows Erykah Badu hosted the Soul Train Awards and I was so looking forward to seeing what her different looks would be. Guess what? She had 0 changes. Mz. Badu moves to her own beat. The whole show was fabulous but the highlight was Babyface serenading the stadium as if it was an intimate supper club. His hit parade included appearances with Brandy, Tevin Campbell and Fantasia. Erykah Badu performed her new song “Cell Phone.” Jill Scott received the 1st ever Lady of Soul Award and blessed the stage like only she can. While Cameo performed “Candy” and had us all singing and dancing in the aisles.

All in all it was absolutely the best and I know exactly where I’ll be next year same time, same place. Make sure to tune in tonight at 8 p.m. EST on BET and Centric
