Exclusive: Yvette Lee Bowser & Cast talk New Starz Show ‘Run The World’ [Video]

From the creator of Living Single and executive producer of Dear White People comes the new edgy comedy series, Run the World.

The show set in Harlem, NYC follows four beautiful, successful vibrant, and hilarious Black women as they navigate through the inescapable ups and downs of life. As they strive for greatness, viewers can relate to their career highs and lows, hookups, relationship obstacles, and the heartbreaks that put everything into perspective. While nothing is certain, this enviable group of best friends shows that when life hands you lemons, mix it with a cocktail, grab your girls, and believe you’ll thrive together. The unapologetic series stars, Amber Stevens West, Bresha Webb, Andrea Bordeaux, and Corbin Reid as well as the iconic Erika Alexander “Living Single”, Stephen Bishop, Tosin Morohunfola, and Nick Sagar.

Sex and fashion have returned to the city, not that it ever left but this series most certainly does not shy away from highlighting sex and female pleasure. “We actually feel like we created this whole new sub-genre called ‘comedy porn’ because there’s some funny sex scenes,” stated showrunner and executive producer Yvette Lee Bowser. It’s 2021 and yet it is often still seen as taboo to discuss female pleasure but this group of thirty-something-year-old women depicts women in different stages of shared love and intimacy that all women can relate to. The conversations are bold, authentic and a breath of fresh air. Although the women are well put together and at the top of their game, it is nice to also watch as they share their insecurities amongst each other and with viewers. “They’re trying to achieve excellence but they’re also vulnerable and super flawed and I think we need to see characters like that because we all want to be killing it but we also need to give ourselves, like move with some grace,” said West.

Other than the sex and fashion, viewers can look forward to the undeniable chemistry amongst the entire cast. Beware, you might find yourself longing to join the vivacious crew as they wonder the bustling streets of New York. “That was one of the things we noticed straight away was the instant chemistry and click between everyone,” stated Sagar. The closeness and comfortability of the cast was evident throughout the series. And now you can catch up with your soon-to-be favorite group of friends as Run the World debuts on Starz on May 16.
