Wondery Presents Investigative Series Podcast “Bad Batch”

Wondery premiered a new 6 part medical series investigative podcast. Laura Beil, the host and reporter of “Dr Death” returns to host another Wondery project, Bad Batch where she investigates the unregulated industry of stem cells.

In the podcast, Beil explores ways patients are in search of and offered an expensive medical cure, but instead end up becoming worse. Beil examines what happens when a group of people in Texas who reach out for stem cells as a medical treatment became severely ill instead.

“The race is on to find out what went wrong before more people get hurt. The trail leads back to a medical company with slick marketing and a charismatic CEO. And to a multibillion dollar stem cell industry where greed and desperation collide,” Wondery describes the podcast.

Wondery hosted a listening event on October 16 for the first episode of the podcast where Beil answered questions about the episodes in the podcast and her investigative proccess.

Beil’s questions what the medical system really protects and looks into the unregulated industry. “We’re at our most vulnerable when we go to our doctors. We trust the person at the other end of that scalpel. We trust the hospital. We trust the system, these are unapproved therapies,” said Beil.
