What Would Olivia Benson Do? Take Over Rockefeller Plaza in New York City

NBC LAW & ORDER: SVU 25TH ANNIVERSARY OLIVIA BENSON PLAZA EXPERIENCE, NEW YORK, USA - 14 March 2024

Law and Order: SVU took over Rockefeller Plaza, and this is the story… DUN DUN.

The longest-running primetime drama in the history of American television is celebrating its 25th-anniversary season on NBC. I’m talking about none other than Law & Order: Special Victims Unit. To honor this milestone, Rockefeller Plaza was transformed into “Olivia Benson Plaza,” and we got a firsthand look at this experience.

We were welcomed with tote bags containing SVU merchandise and met with exciting photo opportunities, a fan shop featuring SVU-themed items like friendship bracelets (with 25% of the proceeds going to Mariska Hargitay’s Joyful Heart Foundation), and, of course, the Benson and Co. Coffee Truck. In partnership with La Colombe, the truck offered complimentary drinks such as ‘Benson’s Captain-ccino,’ ‘Cup of Joe Velasco,’ ‘Bruno’s Blend’ (decaf option), and more. I went for the ‘Latte & Order’ and loved the detailed latte art to honor the 25th-anniversary season. It was bittersweet mixing my sugar in, TBH.

Kevin Kane and Octavio Pisano, who play Detective Terrence “Terry” Bruno and Detective Jose “Joe” Velasco, were present and grabbing their respective beverages from the Benson and Co. Coffee Truck. The Knockturnal asked what a show with this legacy means to them, and they both took great pride in its impact.

Octavio Pisano exclusively told The Knockturnal, “The true fans are so committed… it’s like a family, almost. That’s the biggest impact to me, seeing the reaction from the fans.” Kevin Kane chimed in, saying, “I moved to New York City a few years after the show came on, and it’s such a big part of the city for me. So to be a part of something so iconic to the city is just wild.”

We couldn’t agree more with them. Law & Order: SVU isn’t just a TV show, and this experience proved just that. Congratulations on the 25th-season anniversary, SVU! If you need us, we’re going to be re-watching the entire show again because why not?
