What Makes Logic Go ‘Like Woah’?

Logic has proven himself as a permanent presence in Hip Hop.

With the release of Under Pressure, he’s shown himself to a be a versatile emcee capable of mixing introspection into an otherwise mainstream sound. Through his collab and production choices it’s obvious that Logic is not only a strong rapper but a well rounded Hip Hop fan. Most struggle to reach a balance between street, emotional, spitter-ific, and whatever category of rapping you want to name. It’s a goal to be able to swing in and out of “ignorant” music, to keep ones personality safe from the influence of the many sides to this genre, and Logic manages to do it as a fan, then take it one step forward and embody that in his art.

This newest single from his upcoming album The Incredible True Story ‘Like Woah’ furthers that balance. The beat, lead by a Nujabes-esque flute sample, doesn’t ease the grit in Logic’s flow. The melodic breakdown on the second half of the track has him slide back into a groove more similar to the production. That dichotomy somehow births a record that has both radio appeal but simultaneously loses nothing in content.

With the success of Under Pressure, I can only predict Logic’s upcoming LP will be good. I also harbor the possibility of it being a classic. Logic has that in him, I’m just waiting to see when he finds the right way to bring it out.
