We Went Backstage at Vivienne Westwood’s Show With MAC Cosmetics

At this year’s Paris Fashion Week Vivienne Westwood presentation opted for a theatrical beauty look.

Val Garland, the lead make up artist for annual Vivienne Westwood’s FW2018 presentation, gave her insight on the beauty look created for the show.

As a tribute to Vivienne Westwood’s signature two-color lip, and inspired by modern Instagram beauty influencers, Garland decided to go for a “crayola” technique.
Val Garland describes her technique as “using anything and everything and painting by numbers.”

This season, the show’s beauty revolved around the evolution of Dame Vivienne,  honing in on her early days instituting the British punk movement in the ’70s—mohawk and all.

Garland’s team also had the freedom to put their own signatures on each model, as in Garland’s opinion, nobody likes to be put in a box.

The look was inspired by Andreas Kronthaler’s (Westwood’s husband and longtime collaborator) letter to Vivienne celebrating the 30 years they’ve spent together. It was also a tribute to all the makeup that was done for Westwood’s shows throughout the years.
