Waka Flocka Flame and Tammy Rivera Share Relationship Truths in New Reality Show…
Rapper Waka Flocka Flame, who hails from Atlanta, has never been shy about expressing love and devotion for his family. His marriage is no exception. Since 2014, Waka has famously been married to television personality Tammy Rivera, a cast member on Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta. The two starred in their own successful television event, Waka and Tammy Tie the Knot in 2019, which chronicled the couples’ emotional roller coaster leading up to their nuptials. Now, the dynamic duo is back for their new television show on WE tv, Waka & Tammy: What the Flocka. The show takes an in-depth view into the highs and lows of their marriage and relationship with their daughter.
Last week, the Knockturnal was able to catch up with Waka about his new show, future music projects, and quarantined life at home with his family. The following are snippets from our phone conversation.
The Knockturnal: First off, how’s quarantine life going for you and the family?
Waka Flocka Flame: Honestly, I’ve just been working on my personal endeavors. I’m focusing on my daughter and wife. It’s a lot of time, I’m just catching up with myself. I’m just at my house. Tammy’s redoing her pool.
The Knockturnal: I wanted to talk about your show, The Flockas, on WE tv. It’s gotten really great reception. The show covers a little bit of everything, from your marriage, to love, to parenting. What do you think is the greatest lesson you’ve learned since filming has started?
Waka Flocka Flame: The greatest lesson I’ve learned? Don’t lie. Don’t lie to your wife. Wives don’t believe anything. Another thing I’ve learned? You’ve got to want it. To make your dreams come true, it’s about how bad you want it. To make your relationship work, it’s about how bad you want it. I want it so bad, I know I’ll always follow up.
The Knockturnal: Did you expect the show to be so popular?
Waka Flocka Flame: Honestly, we had no expectations. We wanted it to be big, of course and wanted to show our relationship. We were overwhelmed at the amount of support.
The Knockturnal: Both you and Tammy have a public relationship. You’re pretty transparent about your marriage. Do you feel like this show is more transparent about your relationship than what you might have shown on Love and Hip-Hop: Atlanta?
Waka Flocka Flame: I think it’s really different. Because now, we control the narrative. There’s no other co-hosts. It’s just our life, we control everything. We control the narrative, which is even better. Otherwise, it’s impossible to control your narrative with the public. When you’re a celebrity, you have no control about what people say about you.
The Knockturnal: Do you feel like either you or Tammy is more involved in the process of making the show, or is it split equally?
Waka Flocka Flame: I’m involved in the process, so is my wife and the entire family. But me, I’m looking ahead. I’m ready for season three. I want to be 100% ready.
The Knockturnal: What do you want your viewers to resonate with and take away from your episodes? What story are you trying to tell?
Waka Flocka Flame: I want the people of America to know who I am as a person. Outside of America, I want to show everybody else African-American life thriving in the United States. I want to put up that picture. I want people to see that. Not some wild, fighting relationships.
The Knockturnal: Aside from the show, what other projects are you working on?
Waka: I’m working on a lot of personal things. Right now, I’m working on protecting my wealth. I’m working on protecting me. To be honest with you, I’m just blessed. I’m just doing life. ‘Flocka: The Album’ will also be out this year.
‘Waka & Tammy: What The Flocka’ released its first episode on March 12, 2020 and airs every Thursday on WE tv.
