A NYFW veteran, Vivienne Tam presented her Spring Summer collection this Sunday at Skylight Clarkson Square.
The collection made in collaboration with the Chinese-Hong Kong fantasy 3D action series, Monster Hunt and Monster Hunt 2, takes inspiration from the film’s values of friendship, love, and hope.
The inspiration takes from many of the film’s aspects, from nature and landscapes reflected in lush prints to accents with Aurora corals, Misty mauves, and dusty pinks. Earthy tones complimented the eccentric embroidered designs depicting the main character of the movie, Wuba, and his friends. Each of the looks took on a relaxed tone with flowy fabrics such as soft denim, cotton twill, silks, and signature mesh overlays. Accessories gave shape to the silhouettes made from various materials to contour the waist and sleeves. The colorful palette combined with non-traditional cuts spoke to an out-of-world experience of limitless imagination and adventure, an exciting extension of the designer’s nature and Asian influences. Closing the show, Tam made her way down the catwalk accompanied by a life-sized Wuba. The couple danced along to the movie’s theme music while guests cheered and applauded the collection.
