On The Scene: VIP Wine Tasting at Millesima

Last night luxury wine retailer Millesima held a VIP wine tasting at their Upper East Side location for a complimentary three-vintage pour of their Château La Gaffelière.

Hosted by Hortense Bernard, General Manager of Millesima USA, and Thomas Soubes, Sales Director of Château La Gaffelière, the event offered attendees a vertical tasting of the Château La Gaffelière, a Bordeaux wine from the Saint-Émilion appellation.  A vertical tasting involves tasting multiple vintages of a single bottling, in this case the 1998, 2003, and 2012 Château La Gaffelière.  It was definitely fascinating to taste the difference between the vintages, from the young and smooth 2012 to the mature and more complex taste of the 1998.

Millesima’s Upper East Side location hosts weekly tastings every Thursday between 5 and 8pm, and they offer an impressive wine selection; we particularly liked their section that helpfully sorted the wines by which food they pair with.  We were also impressed to learn that Millesima maintains more than 2.5 million bottles of wine in their cellars in Bordeaux, including thousands of the large format bottles that they are known for – the company has 100 to 250 en-primeur wines in every format possible and has more than 80,000 private clients. We will definitely attend another of their tastings soon, if just to tide us over until we can fly to France for a real visit!
