The wonderful goodness of Venezuelan food comes straight to Manhattan
Last Wednesday, we attended a special event celebrating the opening of Soho’s newest eatery, Areppas. This Soho location is the third brick and mortar store opened by restaurant owners Celestino Diaz and Brooke Carrie Hil. You can think of Areppas as a Subway sandwich/Chipotle equivalent to the classic Venezuelan dish, where guests go down a line and construct their perfect arepa, adding whatever meats, vegetables, sauces, and sides that they want. Although this is more of a fast eatery style, Areppas does not skip out on some of the traditional flavors that are found in this classic Venezuelan dish.
The arepa itself is soft and pillowy and a great vessel for all the additions inside. And with some of the best seasonal ingredients and proteins available, guests have plenty of options with customizing their perfect arepa. But, if the thought of making your own sounds too daunting, Areppas have signature dishes that are amazing to eat.
The signature dishes that Areppas offer are the Downtown Arepa which is made with short rib and de mano cheese, the Uptown Arepa which is made with a verde arepa, pulled pork, avocado, tomato & jalapeño, and The Queen which is made with shredded chicken, avocado, cilantro, lime juice & mayo.
Areppas also feature bowl options which is essentially a deconstructed arepa. Some of their options include the Chicken Supreme Bowl which is made with white rice, slowly roasted chicken, fresh tomatoes, Bean Salad, chicken salad and salsa rosada sauce, the Vegan Bowl which comes with rice, black beans and sweet plantains, vegan veggie burger made from a blend of organic whole grains and organic vegetables seasoned with organic spices, and the Short Ribs Supreme Bowl which is made with white rice, shredded short rib cooked with wine overnight, fresh tomatoes, bean salad, onions, salsa rosada sauce. And if arepas aren’t enough to satisfy you, they also offer classic empanadas which is sure to be a great addition to anyone’s meal.
What’s even better is that with every purchase at Areppas, they give back to the children of Latin America, having over 102,000 children receiving free meals since their first store opening. If you are in the mood to try something new and in the SoHo, definitely check out Areppas which is located at 25 Cleveland Place!
