Turkish Designers debut at NYFW 2019

On February 12, three Turkish designers made their NYFW debut. The Turkish Group Show presented Buket Ozkalfalar, Gökhan İldeniz, and Firat Neziroglu. Sponsored by the Turkish Government as well as the Turkish Textile Council, each designer shared strong visions through their Fall/Winter ’19 collections.

Buket Ozkalfalar was first to present her “Goth version of Great Gatsby.”

The entire collection consisted of black pieces reminiscent of flappers during the prohibition era. Other pieces in the collection blended the flapper look with futuristic aspects that made the NYFW newcomer standout.

Designer Gökhan İldeniz presented his FW’19 menswear collection. İldeniz’s debut at NYFW was his casual menswear collection. İldeniz constructed most of his collection using denim and fur material. While the collection had a casual feel, there was some serious craftsmanship presented in his patchwork, handsewn whip-stitching, and inventive dying techniques. Many of his looks were paired with roughly cut, pelt like furs giving the collection a wearable rugged feel.

Firat Neziroglu presented his menswear collection FW’19 last with “dressy suiting and artsy-craftsy handmade separates.” While Neziroglu’s collection had an essence of sophistication, most of the looks were fun. Many of the pieces had rope tie closures, yarn based detail work.

Neziroglu’s collection is exciting and wearable.

Overall the Turkish Fashion made quite the debut for NYFW. All three designers put together amazing presentations.
