The Market Art + Design Fair Kicked Off With An Epic VIP Preview Bash

On Thursday, July 5th, well-heeled East Enders made their way to Bridgehampton, NY to celebrate the opening night of the Market Art + Design fair.

80 top galleries from all over the world showed off modern and contemporary art pieces; while guests interacted with curators, gallery owners, and even artists.

But, art wasn’t the only attraction on opening night of the fair’s eighth edition.  Attendees could also try out the new Tesla car models, enjoy an Aperol Spritz thanks to the Aperol booth and of course, enjoy a lobster roll (or two).

The Knockturnal chatted with Richard J Demato, owner of the RJD gallery in Bridgehampton, about his move from fashion in the big city to art in the slower-paced Hamptons. Having relocated to the Hamptons after building a successful business, Demato found his passion in charity and art. When asked how he chooses the artists his gallery works with he said, “It’s a democratic decision. Four of the five of us have to agree it’s either good or that it’s not for us. You never know when someone might see something I don’t see.”

Considering Demato’s gallery specializes in “Magical Realism” – it’s safe to assume that art at this gallery, really is in the eye of the beholder … and that’s the chicest thing about it.
