Spice up your lift with some festival fall cocktails.  Whether its a drink to kick off your Halloween or a little treat to celebrate the leaves changing color, we have you covered

Vodka

D.R.S. (Dill Reduction System)

Ingredients:

  • 60ml/2oz Belvedere Organic Vodka
  • 15ml/.5oz lime juice
  • 1 Dash celery bitters
  • 1 Bsp sugar syrup (Optional)
  • Fever Tree Cucumber Tonic

METHOD:  Fill a chilled highball glass with cubed ice. Add first four ingredients and top with cucumber tonic. Stir gently to combine. Garnish with a cucumber ribbon and a sprig of fresh dill.

Upstate Espresso Martini 
Ingredients:
  • 1.5oz Upstate Vodka or Upstate Vodka Cinnamon (for a spiced twist)
  • 1.5oz Cold brew coffee or Espresso
  • 1 oz Mr. Black or other coffee liqueur
  • .25oz Simple Syrup (1:1)
Method: Combine all ingredients together. Serve in a coupe glass. Garnish with three coffee beans.
Galliano Espresso Martini
 

Ingredients:

  • 1 oz Galliano Espresso
  • 1 oz Vodka
  • 1 oz Espresso
  • 1/4 oz simple syrup
  • 3 Coffee beans to garnish

Why Galliano?

Galliano Espresso (30% ABV – $19.99) is not like any coffee liqueur, but is a unique espresso liqueur with a more concentrated palate. The espresso liqueur contains two varieties of dark roasted coffee beans: 55% Arabica coffee beans from Colombia and Brazil and 45% Robusta coffee beans from India and Kenya. The Arabica coffee beans give a chocolaty creamy and delicate top note, while the Robusta contributes body and bitter coffee-flavored tones. Therefore, the espresso liqueur is perfect for the most intense coffee liqueur cocktails with a balanced aroma. A true coffee lover’s dream.

 

Gin

Fitzgerald’s Peculiar Pear 

Ingredients

  • 2 parts Hendrick’s OASIUM
  • ¾ parts spiced pear syrup
  • Macerate 1 cup frozen pears in 1 cup hot simple syrup. Add ¼ tsp ground cinnamon, ¼ tsp allspice, ¼ tsp salt. Let cool. Blend and strain solids out.  
  • 1 part fresh lemon juice
  • 3 dash Angostura bitters

Method: Shake ingredients together over ice, double strain into a chilled Coupe glass. Garnish decadently. 

 

Rebirth 

Ingredients: 

  • 2 parts Hendrick’s Gin
  • 1 part cold brew concentrate
  • ½ part dark chocolate liqueur or regular chocolate liqueur for something sweeter
  • ½ part orange liqueur
  • Sprinkle of sea salt 
  • Orange peel for garnish

Method: Combine all ingredients into a shaker with ice and shake hard. Strain liquid into one end of the shaker, discard ice, and shake hard again. Double strain into a chilled coup glass. Garnish with an orange peel.

 

Sloe Gin Fizz

Ingredients

Glass: Highball Glass

Ice: Cubed

Garnish: Lemon wheel

Method: Dry shake all ingredients (except club soda). Shake a second time with cubed ice. Double strain into a highball glass over fresh ice. Top with club soda and lemon wheel.

 

Bloody Nora (Flora Dora)
Ingredients

  • 2 oz Four Pillars Bloody Shiraz Gin
  • ⅓ oz grenadine syrup or raspberry syrup
  • ⅓ oz lime juice
  • 3 oz ginger beer
  • Lime

Glassware: Highball glass
Garnish: Lime wedge

  • 1 oz Orange Liqueur
  • 1 oz Lime Juice

Method: Add all ingredients to a cocktail shaker. Shake until I’ve cold. Strain into rocks glass over cubed ice.

Oaxacan Toddy

Ingredient:

  • 1.5 oz. Bozal Ensamble
  • .75 oz. Yellow Chartreuse
  • .5 oz. Barrow’s Intense Ginger Liqueur
  • .25 oz. Agave Syrup
  • Hot Water

Method: Combine all ingredients in mug except garnish.  Pour hot water into mug then add cinnamon stick and lime wheel with clove and serve.

 

Hellish Spirit

Ingredients

  • 2 oz Maestro Dobel Diamante
  • .75 oz Lemon Juice
  • .5 oz Simple Syrup
  • .25 oz Grenadine Syrup

Method:  Fill a double old-fashioned glass with ice and pour drink over it.  Top cocktail off with soda water and garnish with two chili peppers

Spirits Raised

Ingredients:

Directions​: Add all ingredients to a shaker filled with ice. Shake well. Strain into cocktail glass of choice, over ice.

 

Whiskey/Bourbon

Davis Old Fashioned

Ingredients:

  • 2 oz SirDavis American Whisky
  • .25 oz Honey Syrup*
  • 2 dashes Angostura Bitters
  • Garnish: Lemon Twist & Brandied Cherry

Method: In a mixing glass, add all ingredients. Stir for dilution and strain into a rocks glass over a large cube. Garnish with an orange twist & brandied cherry.  *To make honey syrup, add 2 parts honey and 1 part water into a small saucepan over medium heat. Stir until the honey is dissolved. Allow to cool and transfer to an airtight container.

Ingredients:

Garnish: Lemon Twist, expressed

Method: Build ingredients over ice in Collins glass, express and garnish with lemon twist.

 

The Cortado

Ingredients:

  • 1.5 oz Bib & Tucker Gold Roast Bourbon
  • 0.5 shot Espresso or Cold Brew
  • 0.25 oz Simple Syrup
  • 0.75 oz Madeira Wine
  • 2 dashes Angostura Bitters
  • Garnish: Lemon peel

Method:  Add all ingredients into a shaker tin half full of ice. Shake well and strain into glass. Garnish with lemon peel.

 

GO GO HIGHBALL 

Ingredients:

  • 30ml (1oz) – Johnnie Walker Black Label
  • 90ml (3oz) – Schweppes (or other premium) Ginger Ale
  • 30ml (1oz) – Sour Cherry Juice*

Garnish: Two Black Cherries

Glassware: Highball

Ice: Cubed

Method: Build ingredients in chilled highball glass over lots of ice. Add sour cherry juice last to have a ‘drizzle’ effect. Garnish cocktail with two black cherries

Ingredients

  • 2 oz Rémy Martin VSOP
  • 1 oz dark crème de cacao
  • 1 oz heavy cream

Method: Chill the glass – place a coupe in the freezer or pack with ice, discarding the cubes just before serving.  Combine cognac, crème de cacao and cream in a cocktail shaker filled with clear ice.  Shake vigorously until the shaker tin is frosted and the mixture feels luxuriously silky.  Strain through a fine strainer into the chilled coupe to preserve its creamy texture.  Garnish your cocktail with a light dusting of fresh, grated nutmeg to release warming spice aromas.

Glenmorangie Fig & Rose Old Fashioned
Ingredients:
  • 40 mL Glenmorangie A Tale of Spices
  • 20 mL Fig Syrup
  • 1 Dash of Rose Water
  • 2 Dashes of Angostura Bitters
  • Garnish: Thinly Sliced Fresh Fig

 

Highland Park Penicillin

Ingredients:

  • 2 oz Highland Park Whisky 12YO or 18YO
  • ¾ oz lemon juice
  • ½ oz honey syrup (2:1 honey  to water)
  • ½ oz ginger syrup
  • Garnish: candied ginger

Directions: Add all ingredients to a cocktail shaker. Shake until well-chilled. Strain into chilled cocktail glass and garnish.

Bloody Black Bush

Ingredients

  • 50ml Bushmills Black Bush
  • 50ml orange juice
  • 50ml red vermouth
  • 35ml berry syrup
  • 1 handful of blackberries
  • 1 orange wedge

Method:  Pour all ingredients into an iced rocks glass and stir. Garnish with an orange wedge and berries

 

Eli’s Gameday Old Fashioned

Ingredients:

  • 2 oz Knob Creek Bourbon
  • ¼ oz Brown Sugar Syrup (store bought or recipe below)
  • 3 dashes El Guapo Chicory Pecan Bitters
  • Orange Slice Garnish
  • Brown Sugar Syrup: 2 parts Dark Brown Sugar : 1 part Water.  Combine ingredients in a saucepan over medium heat. Bring to a simmer, stirring until sugar is dissolved. Remove from heat and let cool. Store refrigerated.

Method:  Combine ingredients in a mixing glass with ice and stir to chill. Strain into a rocks glass over fresh ice (large cube recommended). Garnish with orange slice.

Orin Swift 8 Years in the Desert

Winemaker’s notes:

The 2023 Eight Years in the Desert pours a dark mauve core with a red amethyst rim and aromatic notes of ripe blackberry and raspberry bramble.  Further hints of chocolate covered espresso bean, black pepper and allspice emanate from the glass. The entry is dominated by black plum preserves and freshly baked mixed berry morning bun with an energetic yet concentrated mid-palate. Soft and textured tannins give way to a lifted finish with a touch of pluot and dried tarragon.

Donnafugata Mille e una Notte – Sicilia DOC Rosso 2021

THE BRAND: Donnafugata, founded in 1983 by Giacomo and Gabriella Rallo, is a family-owned winery and leading example of authentic and sustainable winemaking in Sicily. Donnafugata produces tailor-made wines at the pinnacle of Italian craftsmanship, focused on small, prestigious productions from unique territories and vineyards across the island of Sicily.

THE STORY: In the author’s imagination, the palace illustrated on the label is inspired by the one where Queen Maria Carolina took refuge while fleeing from Naples and was the favorite house of the writer Tomasi di Lampedusa in Santa Margherita Belìce. Gabriella Anca Rallo – founder of Donnafugata, with her husband Giacomo – captures the image and embeds it into the sky from “Arabian Nights”, full of stars and full of promise. A tribute to the passionate masterpiece of oriental literature, capable of telling one thousand and one stories.

THE WINE: Made from Nero d’Avola, Petit Verdot, Syrah, and other grapes, is  produced in the Contessa Entellina estate and neighboring territories, South Western Sicily.

TASTING NOTES: Mille e una Notte is an intense ruby red color and presents a broad bouquet characterized by fruity notes of blackberries and black mulberries, fresh balsamic hints of liquorice, spicy notes and delicate nuances of sweet toasting. On the palate, it is deep and with velvety tannins and closes with a remarkable taste, persistence and seductive savouriness.

 

Banfi Chianti Classico Riserva DOCG, Tuscany

THE BRAND: Banfi, producer and importer of fine wines, was founded in 1919 and is today woman-owned and operated by third generation family proprietor Cristina Mariani-May. Banfi is the sole U.S. importer of the Mariani family’s internationally renowned wine estates in Italy: Castello Banfi of Montalcino, Tuscany, and Banfi Piemonte of Strevi, Piedmont.

BACKGROUND: Chianti is produced in eight adjacent, yet distinct, zones that cover a vast part of central Tuscany. But only one, which is the oldest and original, may produce Chianti Classico. However, provenance alone is not sufficient to merit the designation Chianti Classico. The producer must strictly adhere to all DOCG rules, which cover elements of vinification (such as alcohol content, yield per acre, and blend) as well as aging and bottling.

TASTING NOTE: On the nose, rich with notes of cherries, plums, and iris. On the palate, deep cherry and leather flavors with subtle wood notes. Supple tannins, good acidity, and a lingering finish.

Piper-Heidsieck Brut Rosé

TASTING NOTES: Piper-Heidsieck Brut Rosé boasts a vibrant, fruity and intense profile. An aromatic explosion of blood orange, wild strawberries, black cherries and blackberry jam, followed by fragrances of roses and fresh almond.

 

Colomé Estate Torrontés 2024 (SRP $14 / ABV 13%)

Torrontés is the native Argentine flagship white grape, which reaches its highest expression in this region. This area has a special micro-climate made up of the extreme altitude (1700 and 3100 masl), the brightness of the sunlight, and the wide diurnal temperature range. This is a very special alchemy that belongs exclusively to these lands and contributes to the unique character and fragrance of the grape. Grapes are grown at our La Brava vineyard estate at 1700 meters, which is considered the best altitude for this variety. There is a wide diurnal temperature range and the intense solar exposure means that grapes grown here develop a unique aromatic expression which in turn produces a fresh wine of great acidity.

 

Josh Cellars
