Highlights from the Inaugural Gotham TV Awards Red Carpet

Tuesday was a night of firsts. The Gothams held their first larger award show for the TV industry at Cipriani 25 in New York City.

It was also the first time the hit Netflix series Baby Reindeer won an award. They were recognized for the Breakthrough Limited Series category. Richard Gadd, the show’s creator, and star, expressed his surprise and gratitude in his acceptance speech, saying,

“I never thought in a million years that this dark, weird, messed up show would have brought in this universal love that it’s received.”

This left people asking could this be a preview of the upcoming Emmys.

A notable first happened for Actress Robyn Cara. During our conversation on the red carpet, she explained that this was her first-ever nomination for an award. She was nominated for Outstanding Performance in a Comedy Series for her role in Bodkin. Another winner of the night was Zine Tseng, who won the award for Outstanding Performance in a Drama Series for 3 Body Problem. However, she expressed more excitement about being in New York City for the first time than winning the prize.

The cast of the popular Prime show Expats were all present to present the Spotlight Tribute to their Director Lula Wang for her work in adapting Janice Y.K. Lee’s novel into the Prime Video series. Sarayu Blue, who plays Hilary Starr, expressed her admiration for the director, saying, “I’m so excited to present to her. I love her so much. I’m such a fan of her and being able to honor her just means so much because she’s incredible and deserves everything.”

Brian Tee, who co-stars with Nicole Kidman, also spoke with us and expressed how honored he felt to present this special award to Wang.

Another honorary was Mariska Hargitay who was receiving the Anniversary Tribute presenting the award was her friend and Gotham Board member Stephanie March. Who told us being able to present this award made the night fun and not work.

“I get to go to work every day on a show that makes people feel less alone,” Hargitay said during her speech. “That’s one of the most devastating effects of sexual assault, domestic violence is the isolation.”

She praised Law & Order: SVU for telling the stories of women and survivors “across the spectrum of gender identity.”

Several stars graced the event, including Riley Keough, Jake Lacy, Susan Kelechi Watson, Kristen Wiig, and Walton Goggins. Goggins, who was taking a break from filming the third season of The White Lotus which is currently taking place in Thailand, was also in attendance. The Knockturnal spoke to Goggins over the success of Fallout” the video game turned hit show. When asked how he prepared his approach was 100% authencity.

“No, I didn’t play the game, not even once. I was too intimidated by it. I just felt that there needed to be someone at the table who didn’t have to carry the weight of how special that experience was for the player. We knew that everybody knew we had so many people who had our back regarding that. I just wanted to come out with truth and authenticity and play this person, you know?”
