Any traveller visiting New York City knows finding a luxurious hotel on the west side of Upper Manhattan can be a bit of a challenge due the majority of hotels located in Midtown or Downtown. However, The George Manhattan, a brand new—and the first Hilton—hotel in Harlem, is poised to be the top lodging accommodation in the uptown neighborhood.
Located at 412 West 126th Street in the heart of Harlem, The George Manhattan is part of Hilton’s Tapestry Collection that consists of superior, independent boutique hotels that offer unique personalities, local flair, and specialized design. The 7-storey property is truly distinctive and more authentic to New York City resident life, less touristy, and a far better value than hotels further downtown. Best of all, the rooms here are modern, clean and spacious in size by Manhattan standards—a huge advantage for longer stays.
There are 139 guest rooms at The George Manhattan and each one offers guests a quiet and tranquil place to rest and recharge. The Knockturnal was a guest at the hotel and the room we stayed in was homey and had plenty of space to stretch out. The room also featured numerous power outlets, inviting natural texture décor and a floor-to-ceiling window with views of the residential neighborhood. The plush king bed was extremely comfortable and we slept so well. The bathroom had a rainfall shower with strong water pressure—a true delight. Also, available inside the room included a safe, a big smart TV, ample closet space, a large desk perfect to place your laptop for work, a Keurig coffee machine, a mini fridge and a bathrobe. Every aspect of the room was well-kept, functional and flawless.

The hotel’s public spaces have been thoughtfully designed with calming earth tones, matte blacks, vibrant greens and snuggly neutrals layered with beautiful art-deco finishings, soft lighting and comfy seating—which reflected a soothing, modern oasis. The front desk is sleek and minimal while the hotel’s lobby bar is opulent filled with bold colors and prints—showcasing Harlem’s artistic soul. Guests can sit around the gorgeous bar and sip on refreshments throughout the day and into the night. Adjacent to the bar is magnificent spiral staircase that leads to a spacious lounge for guests to enjoy.

Amenities offered at The George Manhattan include complimentary WiFi, breakfast service, a fitness center, an urban courtyard, an outdoor pool (opening this summer), an outdoor terrace and a meeting space that’s 2,000 square feet. Two full-service restaurants are slated to open later this year.
As for the location of the property, it’s hard to beat being close to Columbia University, the historic Apollo Theater, Morningside Park, the National Jazz Museum and subway lines with easy access to Midtown. The George Manhattan is inspired by Harlem’s rich history. Its namesake honors Harlem dance legend George “Shorty George” Snowden and King George II, who chartered Columbia University in 1754.
Overall, The George Manhattan is perfect. The safe and classy hotel is a wonderful addition to Harlem that offers all types of guests, whether work or leisure, a quiet respite from the hustle and bustle of New York City. You’ll feel happy, well-rested and recharged here.
