The Biggest Reveals Out of DC FanDome

DC FanDome’s Hall of Heroes took place this past weekend as it did not disappoint at all.

Not only that many of our questions were answered during the all-day event, but we were left with excitement of what we will have within the next few years. DC FanDome made sure to go out of their way to make this event a big deal right in our living rooms and it became the number one trending topic on social media. After I gave some thoughts to digest the content that I saw yesterday, I wanted to share my opinions of the biggest and the best reveals and news that was shared to the world at DC FanDome.

THE SUICIDE SQUAD

James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad has caught the interest of fans since it was revealed a few years ago that he would direct the film. What left everyone curious the most, is who the cast would be and which cast member would play the characters. Other than Margot Robbie (Harley Quinn), it was a guessing game for the rest of the cast and at DC FanDome, the entire cast and who they would be playing was revealed. Not only did we get the reveal of the cast, but we got some behind the scenes footage of the development of The Suicide Squad which looks great. The Suicide Squad will take inspiration from the early 1980’s comic book storylines and James Gunn stated that the film will be like a 1970’s war movie.

GOTHAM KNIGHTS

It has been five years since the release of Batman: Arkham Knight and Rocksteady has teased the next entry of the Batman video game series for a year now. At DC FanDome, the reveal came as Gotham Knights was shown for the first time. There was a trailer and an early build of the gameplay that was shown as you can play as either Batgirl, Nightwing, Red Hood, and Tim Drake as Robin. The setting of Gotham Knights is that years after Batman’s death, crime in Gotham City has gotten out of control and the Gotham Knights has to maintain the legacy of Batman as they are tasked to protect Gotham City. As of this writing, the only villains that are seen are Mr. Freeze and the Court of Owls. Also to note, each character has their own different style of gameplay and Gotham Knights will feature single-player, and co-op multiplayer.

BLACK ADAM

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson shared very small details about the upcoming Black Adam film that are actually big news as the film will introduce the Justice Society of America to the DCEU. That team has been popular in the DC Comics continuity since 1940, which was 20 years before the formation of the Justice League. Dwayne Johnson was also joined by Noah Centineo as he will play as Black Adam’s foe Atom Smasher, who is also a member of the Justice Society of America. There were also story details that Dwyane Johnson shared about the film as Black Adam was enslaved in the desert nation of Khandaq, and was granted the power of the Wizard Shazam. He was then imprisoned for five thousand years due to him freeing the Seven Deadly Sins and nearly destroyed the world, as that was established in Shazam! The concept images that were shown gives us a glimpse of that story and filming for Black Adam will resume within the next few months.

SHAZAM: FURY OF THE GODS

The Shazam panel was different than all the other panels as it was also subtitled “Shazoom” on the top of the screen. Zachary Levi hosted the panel as he and the rest of the cast’s personalities really shined during the panel. Sinbad was also revealed to be part of the sequel too. The way the title was revealed was quite clever as Faithe Herman revealed the name of the sequel along with the poster as we now know that the sequel’s name will be Shazam: Fury of the Gods.

ZACK SNYDER’S JUSTICE LEAGUE

The wait is finally over as the trailer of Zack Snyder’s Justice League made its world premiere at DC Fandome. All of the scenes on that trailer are new scenes as Zack Snyder’s vision of the Justice League is on full display. The most interesting news that came out of this panel, is that this full-length film will be split into four parts that will be one hour each. Since earlier this year, it was debated among the DC community whether if it will be released on HBO Max as an uninterrupted film or split episodically and it is good to see and hear Snyder confirm that his version of Justice League will be a four-part series. Zack Snyder is also looking to also release this film for home distribution sometime after it premieres on HBO Max.

STATIC SHOCK FILM IN DEVELOPMENT

This was a big surprise during the Milestone Media panel and even the official DC Comics Twitter account hyped this unannounced project up letting the fans know to tune in for this panel minutes before it began. In the last few minutes of the panel, the announcement of the Static Shock film being in development caught everyone off guard, and fans of the animated series were happy for this announcement since it was a long time coming.

THE BATMAN

DC FanDome saved the best for the last at the Hall of Heroes section of panels as we got the worldwide debut trailer of The Batman. Robert Patterson not only looks great in the Batsuit, but his potential as Batman has made a believer out of curious viewers. Before the debut trailer, Matt Reeves shared a ton of details about The Batman and what can we expect from the film. The most notable fact about The Batman is that it will take place during Year Two which was also the same name of the comic book mini-series. Whether if it will be a direct adaptation or not, is still in the air. But it is great that we now know more of what The Batman will be like.

This is only one part of DC FanDome as the second part will happen on September 12th.
