The Bahamas Comes to LA in Celebration of their 50th Anniversary of Independence

In honor of the Bahamas’ 50th Anniversary of Independence approaching on July 10, The Islands of The Bahamas embarked on a mission to bring the spirit and vibrancy of the islands to Los Angeles for a memorable “Bringing the Bahamas to You” experience.

The Bahamas, known for its pristine beaches, crystal-clear waters, and vibrant culture, has always been a dream destination for many and now with the recent launch of the first-ever non-stop flights from Los Angeles to Nassau, the event served as a delightful introduction to the allure and charm of the Bahamas, leaving guests eager to experience the real thing.

Attendees of the celebratory evening were treated to an immersive experience showcasing the best of Bahamian culture. From pulsating sounds of Junkanoo to authentic Bahamian bites and cocktails, social worthy photo moments, and vacation giveaways attendees were transported to the enchanting shores of the Bahamas, creating an unforgettable celebration of the country’s independence and newfound connectivity with Los Angeles.

The Viceroy hotel in Santa Monica was transformed into a tropical oasis, immersing guests in the vibrant atmosphere of the Bahamas. The event began with the mesmerizing sounds of Junkanoo, a traditional Bahamian street parade characterized by colorful costumes, lively music, and energetic dance performances. Attendees couldn’t help but move to the infectious beats, setting the tone for a night filled with excitement and cultural immersion. Guests were also able to meet with the Honorable I. Chester Cooper, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Tourism, Investments & Aviation and Latia Duncombe, Director General, as well as other members of the tourism board. They shared their favorite parts of being Bahamian and suggested must see spots on the 16-island paradise.

Bites by Bahamian Chef Kevyn Pratt at the Bringing the Bahamas to You Experience at the Viceroy

To tantalize the taste buds, guests had the opportunity to savor authentic Bahamian cuisine. Chef Kevyn Pratt curated a mouthwatering bite menu consisting of Bahamian lobster fritters prepared with smoked caramelized onion and calypso sauce as well as seared herb marinated red snapper prepared with coconut curried grits and backyard lemon butter. To complement the delicious food, mixologist Marv ‘Mr. Mix’ Cunningham offered cocktails reminiscent of the Bahamas’ idyllic island vibes and tropical flavors. “Bringing the Bahamas to You” successfully transported guests from Los Angeles to the sun-kissed shores of the Bahamas. The event not only provided a taste of the island’s rich culture and culinary delights but also ignited a desire for future travel and exploration.
